Your traditional wedding dinner can consist of any type of meal of your choosing. If you have your wedding in a hall or a wedding venue, you can speak to the venue operator about what type of food will be served. In most cases, they will have a menu from which you can select foods to be served to your guests. If you are having your wedding outside in a garden, in true country fashion, you will have to have a caterer bring the meal. This usually consists of a buffet style service in which each guest gets up and helps themselves. This is usually less costly than a formal, sit down dinner.

Besides above the most traditional reception set-up is a formal sit down dinner, this is usually also the most expensive. Most caterers will probably suggest at least three courses, a variety of beverages which will include champagne and tea/coffee with petit fours to finish. Waiters will be required to serve the food and Bar staff and Wine waiters to serve the drinks, this can be organised by the caterer you choose. The sit-down service works very well when there are a large number of guests to serve, it is more organised and less chaotic than a buffet.

By the way another food service method is the Buffet where guests have the freedom to choose from a variety of hot and cold dishes and then sit down at a formal table to enjoy the offerings. With this style of service, the guests can be seated formally and tables can still be decorated to match the theme. Again the caterer would organise the waiting staff. The Indian catering industry utilises an ingenius method of serving many different dishes piping hot at the same time, this is called the Karahi Stand. It is an individual buffet stand for each table and can serve up to 8 dishes at one time. The stand is usually made of brass and also has a candelabra for décor purposes. Curry Special Ltd, prominent London caterers, have a unique Karahi Stand made of crystal which has a chandelier on it, lit with led lights. Ideal for the client who wants something totally new and different.
